MIKE 3 FLOW MODEL HD FM - 3D hydrodynamic modelling with flexible mesh
This two-day, hands-on course will give you an introduction on how to set up a hydrodynamic model using the MIKE 3 Flow Model HD FM model using flexible mesh bathymetry. The hydrodynamic module of MIKE 3 Flow Model HD FM provides the basis for computations of processes performed in many other modules such as as sediment and mud transport, transport of heat and suspended matter, oil spill, agent based modelling and ecology but can also be used as a stand-alone application. The module simulates unsteady flow taking into account density variations, bathymetry and external forcing. Typical application areas of MIKE 3 Flow Model HD FM are assessment of hydrographical conditions in stratified and non-stratified waters, oceanographic circulation studies and lake and reservoir hydrodynamics.

- Selecting geographical coordinate systems, bathymetry digitisation, and vertical grid resolution (mesh)
- Organising, importing, editing, and quality-controlling data
- Fundamentals of 3D flow modelling
- Setting up and running basic hydrodynamic models
- Managing and applying boundary conditions
- Calibration and validation techniques
- Utilising MIKE 21/3 Flow Model utility tools
- Analysing model inputs and outputs
- Interpreting results and creating visualisations, including video animations
- Practical hands-on exercises
TARGET GROUP AND PREREQUISITES
This course is designed for professionals in hydraulic engineering and management working with inland flooding, lakes, coastal areas, or marine environments. Prior experience with hydraulic modelling and flexible mesh modeling is highly recommended. Participants are encouraged to complete the MIKE 21 Flow Model HD FM - 2D hydrodynamic modelling using flexible mesh course beforehand or have equivalent practical experience.
