The PHysically-Based Integrated Soil HEalth Simulation Platform (PHISHES) is a European Union-funded research project coordinated by DHI, involving eight other European research institutions. The project aims to bridge the gap between soil-health data and land-management decision-making by delivering predictive tools that help assess how soil use, contamination and climate-related drivers influence soil functions and ecosystem services. The project is particularly timely given the European Union's renewed focus on soil health following the adoption of the Soil Monitoring Law in October 2025.

Understanding how soil health interventions affect ecosystem services at field, catchment and watershed scales requires integrated modelling approaches that connect processes from the soil column to the broader landscape. The PHISHES Digital Platform brings together data, modelling and visualisation tools in a single environment, making it easier for both technical and non-technical users to explore scenarios, generate evidence and support informed land-management decisions.
